The official storage expansion cards for Xbox Series X and Series S are now available for preorder. These proprietary cards are made be Seagate and they give you an extra 1TB of memory that will allow load times to be just as quick as if they were installed on the consoles’ onboard storage. The only hitch is that these cards cost $219.99 each. They come out November 10, the same day as the new consoles. You can preorder one from the retailers below.

Preorder Xbox Series X and S Expansion Card

If you want to hold a substantial number of games on your Series X, you’ll probably need extra storage at some point. The Xbox Series X comes with 1TB of onboard storage, while the Series S comes with 512GB. And with game file sizes steadily increasing, those drives are sure to fill up before long.

You can use a standard USB drive to hold your games (just like you can on Xbox One), but doing so comes with a few drawbacks on Series X and S. The big one is that you won’t be able to play games optimized for Series X and S from a standard USB drive; to do that, you’ll need to transfer them to the onboard storage or the official expansion card.

xbox-series-x-expansion-card-infoYou can play Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games directly from a standard USB drive on the Series X and S. But if you load those games onto the onboard storage or the expansion card, you’ll get faster load times on those older games. You can also store games optimized for Series X and S on a standard USB drive, but you’ll have to transfer them to the onboard storage or expansion card to actually play them.

Yes, it’s all a bit confusing, but you can find more information about Xbox Series X and S storage here.
