The CW and DC Universe’s new Stargirl series may be named after rookie superhero Courtney Whitmore, but she’s hardly the only costumed hero patrolling the streets of Blue Valley, Nebraska. We have an exclusive clip of the series’ second episode, one that shows a much closer look at S.T.R.I.P.E., the armored suit worn by Courtney’s stepfather Pat (Luke Wilson).

Check out the clip embedded below or in the video player above to see how the series has brought this visually complex DC hero to life:

This clip comes early in Episode 2 (fittingly titled “S.T.R.I.P.E.”), as we see the aftermath of Courtney’s (Brec Bassinger) disastrous first night out as a superhero. Pat has finally pulled his old tech out of mothballs to lend a helping hand to Courtney, who is understandably shocked to realize her stepfather has been hiding a gigantic, mechanized battlesuit under their family’s noses this entire time.

When we spoke with Stargirl co-creator/executive producer Geoff Johns about the new series back in March, he also had plenty of praise for the way the special effects team has managed to bring S.T.R.I.P.E. to life in live-action.

“We took a lot of processes that we have on the films – Shazam! and Wonder Woman and so forth – of producing action and visual effects,” said Johns, crediting the work of stunt coordinator Walter Garcia and VFX house Zoic, led by Andrew Orloff, for their work on the series. “We’re the first Warner Brothers show to use Third Floor to pre-viz our action sequences because we have digital characters and a lot of super powers… When you watch the trailer, you can see the level of visual effects work that Zoic is putting out is phenomenal.”

Johns continued, “Our hope is to do something that is open to a large audience, young and old, but it also has visuals that are really impactful and unique amongst superhero shows. And particularly with Stripesy, we built a 15-foot-tall robot and he looks unreal. Our Solomon Grundy is fantastic, I can’t wait for fans to see Solomon Grundy, and the visual effects throughout the action throughout, when we do it, we really want to make it the best it can possibly be.”
