THQ Nordic continues to grow its expansive studio portfolio with the news that it has opened a brand new company in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava: Nine Rocks Games.

Nine Rocks is headed up by David Durcak, formerly of Bohemia Interactive, where they spent the last five years as the project lead on apocalyptic survival shooter DayZ. Durcak will lead a team of developers whose previous projects include games such as Conan, Chaser, and Soldier of Fortune 3. The new team is already hard at work on a brand new survival shooter title for its first release.

Speaking in a press release to Gamasutra, Durcak spoke of his enthusiasm for the new studio. “We are very much looking forward to setting up shop in our office, gradually optimizing our team size, and getting to work on our project,” said Durcak. “With THQ Nordic as a partner, our roster of talent found perfect conditions to collaborate on our first joint project.”

Nine Rocks Games joins a long list of studios acquired or newly formed under the THQ Nordic/Embracer Group banner. These include HandyGames, Bugbear Entertainment, Rainbow Studios, Gunfire Games, Black Forest Games and most recently Piranha Bytes. Quite the empire.
