According to FX president John Landgraf, the planned TV adaptation of the acclaimed comic book series, Y: The Last Man, is still in pre-production despite its 2020 release window.

Speaking to members of the press at the Television Critics Association, Landgraf told the audience that Y: The Last Man TV show is “in pre-production. Eliza Clark is running that show with Brand Simpsons and Nina Jacobson. We’ve seen five or six scripts now. We haven’t scheduled it because it hasn’t gone into production yet. But it seems to be going well.”

FX has been working on a Y: The Last Man TV series for some time now with eyes on a 2020 release. The series suffered some setback last year when showrunners Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal departed the project over creative differences.

Y: The Last Man is a comic book created by Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra set in a world where Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand are the last surviving mammals with an X chromosome.

It was announced that the FX series would shorten the name of the TV show to just “Y,” dropping the “Last Man” subtitle of the series. Landgraf said this was to make the series more mysterious as well as expand the scope of the show to focus more on the women who run the world like Senator Brown who will be played by Diane Lane.

Other actors attached to the series include Barry Keoghan as Yorick Brown, Imogen Poots as Hero Brown, Lashana Lynch as Agent 355, Juliana Canfield as Beth, Marin Ireland as Nora, Amber Tamblyn as Mariette Callos, and Timothy Hutton as the U.S. President.

While it sounds like the production of Y is still gearing up, at the very least it doesn’t seem like FX has canceled production on the series. Check back with IGN for more news from this year’s winter TCA press conference.
