“Fighting Fate,” Episode 4 of Season 4 of My Hero Academia, begins with aplomb and ends with a draining and satisfying extended scene of real character growth. The season’s best episode yet accomplishes so much without throwing a single punch.

The two minutes of episode we get before the sweet-as-honey OP kicks in is one hell of an intro to the episode, spring-boarding us into what we will be immediately hoping is the best episode of Season 4 so far. These opening minutes forego the usual Deku spiel about UA and his goal of becoming the number one hero; instead, it provides expert exposition in a handful of shots. We get our first real glimpse of Mirio’s hero costume, proudly displaying the number ‘1,000,000’, and him officially telling Deku his hero name, Lemillion.
