Developer Endlight Games has announced that their woodland survival game, The Forest, has managed to shift a solid 5.3 million copies since its launch on Steam Early Access back in 2015.

The creepy, improvisational PC title, which has only recently seen release on PS4, sees players attempt to survive on a remote peninsula after a plane crash, using whatever can be scavenged to provide food, shelter and healthcare, while also defending against a strange bad of cannibalistic mutants that roam the territory.

Made on a budget of only $125,000, Endlight will no doubt be pleased with their product’s slow-burn success to date. A new update was also announced, bringing new weaponry, gear, construction materials and a scary new monster, challenging all those daring to go down to the woods today, or any other day.

The Forest is available now on PC and PS4.
