Yesterday, in its 171st day of release, Marvel’s Black Panther became just the third movie in history to cross the $700 million domestic plateau, joining 2009’s Avatar ($749.7 million domestic) and 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million domestic). Surprisingly, though, it seems Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War likely won’t be able to catch Black Panther, with this superhero ensemble currently at $678 million in its 15th frame (Black Panther was at $698.6 million in its 15th weekend), although its worldwide tally of $2.045 billion has far exceeded the $1.346 billion worldwide tally of Black Panther. While both of these movies are bona fide blockbusters, we’re going to break down why Black Panther’s domestic milestone is more impressive than the worldwide gross of Infinity War.
