The recently-announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is still a long ways off, according to Fox Television CEO Gary Newman.

While speaking during the 2018 TCA summer press tour, Newman explained the reboot, from Joss Whedon and Monica Owusu-Breen, is still in the early stages of development and doesn’t have a script yet.

“There’s actually no script to see,” Newman said. “But, we’ve sat down with the creators and had some conversations about it. It’s a very exciting prospect. It’s still early, we haven’t pitched it to any possible licensees yet, and all of that is still to come.”

Announced last month, the TV reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will feature a black actress in the titular lead role, made famous by Sarah Michelle Gellar. This new version will be contemporary while also building on the mythology of the original.
