For a writer who only just took the reins of the Superman franchise a couple months ago, Brian Bendis sure has penned a lot of introductory stories. There was his Man of Steel prelude in Action Comics #1000, the actual first issue of Man of Steel and then last week’s Superman #1. And now Bendis is writing yet another first chapter as he begins his run on Action Comics. The benefit to writing so many first issues is that Bendis gets plenty of chances to perfect the formula. Action Comics #1001 easily ranks as his strongest Superman comic yet, and proves once again that the franchise is in capable hands.
