The Sentry is a great character that Marvel has never seemed quite to know what to do with over the long term. He’s a character very much out of sync with the rest of the Marvel Universe, which is both the source of his appeal and storytelling woes. But that’s not stopping Marvel from giving the Golden Guardian of Good his own ongoing series at long last, one that’s shaping up to be a solid addition to the Fresh Start lineup.

The new series builds on the character’s recent return in Donny Cates and Gabriel Hernandez Walta’s brief Doctor Strange run. All readers really need to know, however, is that Robert Reynolds is back, and Strange has given him a tool that allows him to unleash his incredible power inside an artificial world so that neither the Sentry nor his alter ego the Void need ever reappear in the real world. That changes the tone of Bob’s struggles now. He’s no longer a tortured hero fighting to keep his demons at bay, but a man who once wielded the powers of a god now forced to eke out a humble existence.
