Sega and Sumo Digital are teaming up to bring gamers the next big thing in arcade racing. Following up the cult classic Sonic & All-Stars: Racing Transformed, Team Sonic Racing brings the action to the current generation of consoles and PC. While the game is obviously inspired by the success of the Mario kart franchise, it features its own style and gameplay mechanics to separate it from Nintendo’s racing juggernaut. We got a chance to talk with the head of Sonic Team about what players can expect from Sonic Team Racing.

Unlike Racing Transformed, the action will be confined to the track rather than a rotating collection of vehicles. The team wanted to deliver a more pure racing experience. Track construction and its effects on the gameplay are discussed, as well as how the team dynamic works within the game. Additionally, we asked about cross-platform play during the session. Our own Ozzie Mejia got to go hands-on with the game at E3 2018 and wrote a piece on his impressions from the play session. The game will be available this holiday season for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
