DC Entertainment is rolling out the new DC Vertigo imprint with seven original comics by a variety of creators not only from the world of comics but television, video games, music, podcasting, and activism.

In its heydey in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Vertigo was home to some of DC’s most popular and award-winning non-superhero comics — The Sandman, Y: The Last Man, and Fables, just to name a few — but much of that acclaim faded with the departure of Vertigo founder and lead editor Karen Berger. A relaunch overseen by new lead editor Shelly Bond was attempted in 2013, but it was shuttered after receiving mixed critical reception and low sales. This latest attempt sees former Batman group editor Mark Doyle taking the reins. A press release from DC said that under Doyle’s leadership, DC Vertigo will be “rededicating its focus to creating modern, socially relevant, high-concept, inventive stories appealing to readers of all genres.”
